These brave students took the bag of litter we collected on the yard and divided it into different categories: Recyclables (paper, plastic, metal, glass) and Garbage.
What we found was astonishing and disgusting!
- There was more garbage than recyclable material found (chip bags, candy wrappers, etc.)
- We counted more plastic ( water bottles, containers) material in the recyclable category than paper, metal, and glass combined
- There was more pieces of garbage in the bag we collected than we had originally thought
- Why do you think we found more garbage than recyclable material?
- Why was there more plastic than paper, glass, and metal?
- How might we prevent this waste from being thrown on the ground?
- How might we reduce the amount of waste our school produces all together (on the ground, and in the garbage cans)?
